Donald Trump seems to be agreeing with me on this one.... Since he wrote a book on Think Big.
I recently discovered audio books online market - Audible.com - most amazing find last month. I can be driving and listening to books, I can be waiting in line at the airport and listening to books, I can be literarily doing anything while absorbing knowledge. Isn't that every hipster nerd's dream?
The first book I listened to was "The Magic of Thinking Big" by Dr. David J. Schwartz first published in 1959. I'd like to share a few things that resonated with me.
To Overcome Fear is by Doing. Simply put, to overcome the fear of something is to just go ahead and do it. For example, if you are afraid to ask your boss for vacation - the only way to overcome that is simply stand up and go talk to him/her. Another example, you are debating so hard in your head if you should do something because you are afraid you will fail, but how do you overcome that? Just shut up and do it already. If you fail, so what? Try again.
Think and Dream Creatively. Dad made a comment yesterday, I can have 10 ideas in 15 minutes. well... again I take that as a compliment dad. But seriously, we need people who can think outside the box. If not, how do we ever make breakthroughs and push forward?
Learn How to Think Positively. Simply put, MASTER YOUR MIND. It's hard not to be the slave of your mind. People always try to compare themselves with others, defeated by failures and easily affected by other people's comments. Well, you shouldn't! Always see the positive side of things. Effectively utilize your mind to provide positive and great thoughts to you. It's hard, I am still learning how to do it.
Use Goals to Help You Grow. Saw a quote the other day - "A goal is a dream with a deadline". Never surround yourself with goal-less people, they will eat your ambition alive.
Think Like a Leader. You act upon your thoughts. Before you do, think about if this is something I would do if I were a leader? Is this something I want to see my people be doing if I were the team leader. If you think that way, you will do the right thing.
Lastly, you are who you think you are! Never forget that. With that blueprint engraved at the back of your head, you will go far. Just remember, all the hardship is part of the process of getting you there.
